The UK solar market works well for installers. It does not work well for the person paying.
The typical experience looks like this: you fill in a form on a comparison site. Within minutes, three or four companies call you. Each quotes a different system at a different price. One recommends twelve panels. Another says fourteen with a battery. A third includes something called an eddi and charges two thousand pounds more. You have no specification, no baseline, and no way to know whether any of them are quoting what you actually need — or what earns them the best margin.
Intelligent Buyers was built to fix that.
We are an independent consumer platform for UK homeowners considering solar panels, battery storage, and home energy improvements. We are not an installer. We do not sell solar panels. We do not auction your phone number to the highest bidder. We build you a free solar readiness assessment, match you with up to three MCS-certified companies who meet our certification standard, and give you a £250 voucher to use with whichever one you choose.
Our Standard
The certification standard
Every installer in our network is assessed against a published multi-criteria standard covering MCS certification, NAPIT electrical accreditation, Companies House verification, Google review rating (minimum 4.0), and confirmed installation team capacity. Additional criteria address technical accreditation, business stability, customer service infrastructure, workforce standards, installation quality, ethical sales practices, and verified customer outcomes.
All criteria must be met. The badge cannot be bought — only earned through demonstrated, verifiable quality. And it can be revoked if standards slip.
MCS certification is the regulatory baseline for the UK solar industry. It is necessary. It is not sufficient. Over fifteen thousand installation teams hold MCS certification. Some are outstanding. Some are not. Our standard sits above MCS and gives homeowners a way to distinguish between them.
The full standard is published in our Certification Charter. We are transparent about what we assess. We do not publish how we score — deliberately, so the standard cannot be gamed.

The data
Everything we publish is grounded in verified data. Our market intelligence is built on MCS-certified installation data covering 856,026 UK solar homes, Ofgem pricing and regulatory data, Energy Saving Trust guidance, and DESNZ policy publications.
When we cite a figure, it comes from a named, verifiable source. We believe informed buyers make better decisions. That belief shapes everything we do, from the quiz to the guides to the data we publish freely.

Our team combines experience in home energy installation, digital technology, consumer research, and independent quality assessment. We work with MCS-certified installers across the UK and are expanding our certified network into new regions and technologies including heat pumps, EV charging, and battery storage.
