What data we collect
We collect different information depending on how you use the site.
When you complete our solar readiness quiz
We collect the answers you provide during the quiz, including questions about your household energy usage, property type, and lifestyle factors. Your answers are used to categorise your household by energy usage level and to generate a personalised energy profile. If you choose to share your contact details, we also collect your name and email address at the start of the quiz. Your phone number is collected separately on the results page, only if you choose to request a survey from matched installers — see below. This information is provided directly by you through our quiz partner, ScoreApp.
When you request to be matched with installers
If you ask us to connect you with certified installers, we share relevant details from your quiz with up to three installers in your area. We explain exactly what is shared below.
When you submit your phone number and request a survey
When you provide your phone number on the results page and request a survey from matched installers, you trigger an outbound automated verification call. This call is placed by an AI voice assistant operated via Vapi. The AI nature of the call is disclosed at the outset of the interaction, in accordance with the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (DMCCA 2024).
During the call, your phone number is verified and a unique authorisation code is issued. This code is also sent to your verified email address. The authorisation code is required to redeem your £250 voucher with your chosen installer.
At the end of the verification call, you may be offered a live transfer to an available MCS-certified installer. If you accept, your call is connected directly to that installer. By submitting your phone number and requesting a survey, you are providing explicit consent for the outbound verification call and, if you choose, the live transfer.
When you register as an installer
We collect your company name, MCS certification number, and email address. If your application progresses, we may also request your phone number, website, service areas, and supporting documentation.
When you visit the website
We collect standard technical data through cookies and analytics: IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, time on site, and referral source. We use Google Analytics (GA4) for this purpose. Please see the Cookies section below for important information about advertising and tracking cookies that may be in use if paid advertising campaigns are active.
When you call us
If you contact us directly by phone, any inbound call to the Intelligent Buyers number may be handled by an AI voice assistant. The AI nature of the call will be disclosed at the outset. The call may be recorded and transcribed to capture your enquiry details. If you provide personal information during the call (name, postcode, email), this is stored and processed in the same way as quiz data.
How we use your data
We use your data for the following purposes:
- To build your solar readiness report. Your quiz answers are used to generate a personalised guide based on your energy profile and property type. This is the core service we provide.
- To match you with certified installers. If you request this, we share your name, postcode area, property type, quiz answers, and installation timeline with up to three MCS-certified installers in your area. We do not share your full address, and we do not share your phone number or email until you explicitly choose to connect with a specific installer.
- To verify your contact details and issue your authorisation code. When you submit your phone number and request a survey, we use an outbound AI-assisted call to verify your phone number and issue a unique authorisation code. This code validates your £250 voucher. The processing is carried out via Vapi (voice) and Omnisend (email confirmation). The legal basis for this processing is your explicit consent, given at the point of submitting your phone number.
- To facilitate a live connection with an installer. If you accept a live transfer during the verification call, your call is connected directly to an available verified MCS-certified installer. At the point of transfer, the installer receives confirmation that you are an Intelligent Buyers verified lead. No additional personal data beyond what you have already consented to share is passed during the transfer.
- To notify you about installer availability. If there is no certified installer in your area, we hold your details and notify you when one becomes available. You can opt out of this at any time.
- To send your confirmation email. After completing the quiz, we send you a confirmation email with a link to your personalised report.
- To improve our service. We use anonymised, aggregated data to understand how homeowners use the platform, which quiz questions are most useful, and which areas have the highest demand.
- To communicate with you. If you have opted in, we may send you relevant updates about solar energy, new guides, or changes to the service. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Legal basis for processing
Under UK GDPR, we process your personal data on the following grounds:
- Consent — when you complete the quiz and provide your contact details, you consent to us processing that data to deliver your report and, if you choose, to match you with installers. When you submit your phone number and request a survey, you provide explicit consent for the outbound verification call, the issuance of your authorisation code, and any live installer transfer you accept. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests — we process anonymised analytics data to improve the platform. We have assessed that this does not override your rights or interests.
- Contract — when an installer joins the Intelligent Buyers network, we process their data as necessary to perform the certification and lead delivery service.
Who we share data with
- Certified installers. Only when you explicitly request to be matched. We share: your name, postcode area (not full address), property type, quiz answers, and timeline. We do not share your email or phone number until you choose to connect with a specific installer. If you accept a live call transfer during the verification call, your call is connected directly to that installer at that point.
- ScoreApp. Our quiz is hosted by ScoreApp, who process your quiz responses on our behalf. ScoreApp acts as a data processor. Their privacy policy is available at scoreapp.com/privacy.
- Google Analytics. We use GA4 to collect anonymised website usage data. Google acts as a data processor. No personally identifiable information is shared with Google.
- Omnisend. We use Omnisend to send transactional emails, including your report confirmation and authorisation code. Omnisend acts as a data processor. Their privacy policy is available at omnisend.com/privacy.
- Vapi. Our outbound verification call service and any inbound phone enquiries are operated by Vapi, an AI voice platform. Call recordings and transcripts are processed by Vapi on our behalf. Vapi acts as a data processor.
- Twilio. Vapi uses Twilio as its underlying telephony infrastructure. Phone numbers and call data may be processed by Twilio as a sub-processor. Their privacy policy is available at twilio.com/legal/privacy.
- Zapier. We use Zapier to pass quiz response data between ScoreApp and our CRM. Zapier processes your name and email address as part of this workflow and acts as a data processor. Their privacy policy is available at zapier.com/privacy.
- HubSpot. We use HubSpot as our CRM to manage lead records and consumer communications. HubSpot processes your name, email address, phone number, and quiz data on our behalf and acts as a data processor. Their privacy policy is available at legal.hubspot.com/privacy-policy.
We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not share your data with advertisers. We do not pass your contact details to any company without your explicit, informed consent.
