The information gap

Two homeowners. Same solar decision.
Very different experience.

The solar market in 2026 has a serious information asymmetry problem. Here's what it looks like in practice.

❌  Without the right information
Four companies call within an hour of filling in a comparison form — quoting completely different systems
No way to compare the prices — they're not quoting the same specification
Payback estimate of "6–8 years" — based on national averages, not your actual energy bills
Never told about DNO grid capacity — the rule that can permanently cap export earnings
No benchmark to check if £8,191 is fair, cheap, or expensive for your roof
✓  With the Solar Buyer Score
You know the MCS cost-per-kW benchmark before any installer calls — you can check every quote against it
All three installers price against the same specification — genuine comparison, for the first time
Payback calculation built from your actual energy usage and tariff — not a marketing estimate
You know your DNO grid status before any conversation starts
You go into every conversation knowing exactly what to ask — and what to walk away from

The number the industry isn't showing you

£1,664 per kilowatt.
The MCS benchmark.

Every UK solar installation is registered with the Microgeneration Certification Scheme. That data contains the real average cost per kilowatt — updated monthly, based on tens of thousands of actual installs.

Divide any quote by the system size in kilowatts. Compare it to the benchmark. That single calculation tells you more about whether you're being fairly priced than any comparison website.

This is publicly available data. No comparison site puts it in front of buyers. No installer is obliged to mention it. The Solar Buyer Score is built around it.

Common questions

Straight answers.

Will you sell my details to installers?
No. You don't give us your email until halfway through the quiz — and only if you want to save your score. If you go on to get a solar plan, you control exactly who sees your data and when. We never share without explicit consent.
Is this actually free?
Completely. The quiz, your score, the guide, and the solar plan are all free. When you're matched with installers, they pay us a flat fee — the same amount for every installer, every time. You pay nothing, ever.
I'm already getting quotes. Is it too late?
No — it's the best time. Your score will show you exactly what questions to go back and ask before you sign. The right information changes what conversations are possible, even if they've already started.
How is this different from a comparison site?
Comparison sites sell your details to the highest bidder. We charge every installer the same flat fee — so we have zero financial incentive to favour any particular company. That structural difference is the foundation of everything we do.
I just want some quotes. Why take a quiz first?
You don't have to. But the MCS benchmark is £1,664 per kW as of early 2026. Without that number, there's no way to know if any quote is fair. The quiz takes 2 minutes. You can do the maths.
How long does the whole thing take?
The quiz is 2 minutes. The results page takes 2 minutes. The guide takes 10 minutes. Total time to being meaningfully better prepared: about 14 minutes.

What buyers say

From people who took the quiz.

I wish I'd done this before I got my first three quotes. The battery question alone stopped me buying something I didn't actually need for my usage pattern.

Sarah T. — Bristol

None of the comparison sites mentioned DNO capacity. This quiz flagged it immediately. Turns out my postcode has a constraint that would have affected my export earnings permanently.
